AN ANALYSIS OF DRUG USERS' ARGOT IN KAMAL DISTRICT BANGKALAN

[ Anotasi Abstrak ]
This study is focused on the utterances of drug users in Kamal district Bangkalan. The source of data is a drug user in Kamal district Bangkalan. This study aims to explain the characteristics of argot used by drug users in Kamal district Bangkalan and the purposes of using argot in drug users’ social interactions in Kamal district Bangkalan. This study is conducted by descriptive qualitative research design. The research instrument in this study is the writer herself. The data is collected by using observation method and interview method. Interactive data analysis method is used in data analysis. There are 49 data which are found in this study. There are two characteristics of argot, they are the use of foreign lexeme (5 data) and the semantics shifting (25 data). There are five purposes of using argot (1) to keep secret when people inside community do not want their idea to be heard by people outside community in their communication (18 data), (2) to escape from enemy or to prevent theft (23 data), (3) to report or inform about a certain situation (7 data), (4) to express their feeling or suspect (0 data), (5) to ask their member what they do not know (1 data).
