A study of Swear Words Used in Blega Traditional Market Place in Bangkalan Madura.Thesis.English Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisors: IqbalNurulAzhar, S.S, M.Hum. This study is focused on the utterances of swear words used by people in Blega traditional market. The sources of data are the people in Blega traditional market. This study aims to explain types of swearing words uttered by people in Blega traditional marketand the motives of using the swearing words in Blega traditional market. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. The research instrument of this study was the writer herself. The data were collected by using observation method. Interactive data analysis to analyze the data. There are 25 data found in this study. They belongs five types of swear words. They are abusive swearing (5 data), idiomatic swearing (11 data), emphatic swearing (1 data), dysphemistic swearing (0 data) and cathartic swearing (8 data). There are tree motives of swearing, those are psychological motives (10 data), social motives (13 data), and linguistic motives (2 data).
