ABSTRAK Hubungan interpersonal tidaklah bersifat statis, melainkan selalu berubah. Konsep diri merupakan factor yang sangat menentukan dalam komunikasi interpersonal, karena sedapat mungkin orang bertingkah laku sesuai dengan konsep diri. Focus permasalahan pada penelitian ini adalah tentang bagaimana konsep diri single mother dalam memelihara hubungan keluarga dan pertemanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dialektika relasional dan teori pendekatan interaksi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif-deskriptif dengan metode fenomenologi. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah single mother dengan karakteristik tertentu yang sudah ditetapkan. Informan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi non partisipan, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisa data adalah dengan strategi fenomenologi Moustakas dan Creswell. Teknik pemeriksaan keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan teori. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa single mother dengan konsep diri positif, terbuka dengan orang lain, percaya akan kemampuannya sebagai single mother, dan selektif dalam segala hal berhasil memaintenance hubungan keluarga dan pertemanan tanpa ada permasalahan yang tidak dapat terselesaikan. Under the guidance of Dr. Yuliana Rakhmawati, S.Sos., M.Sc. ABSTRACT Interpersonal relationship is not static, but always changing. Self-concept is a very decisive factor in interpersonal communication, because as far as possible people behave in accordance with self-concept. The focus of this research is about how the self-concept of single mother in maintaining family relationship and friendship. This study uses relational dialectic theory and interaction approach theory. The type of this research is qualitative-descriptive with phenomenology method. The subject of this study is single mothers with certain characteristics that have been determined. The informants in this study used purposive sampling. Data collection techniques with interview methods, non-participant observation, and documentation. This research used data analysis technique by Moustakas and Creswell phenomenology strategy. For the techniques of examining the validity of data, this research used triangulation of sources and theory. The results of this study indicated that single mother with positive self-concept, open with others, believe in their ability as a single mother, and selectively in all things, success in maintaining family relationship and friendship without any problems that cannot be resolved.
