[ Anotasi Abstrak ]

This study aim at investigating types of borrowing words and factors of word borrowing found in The Jakarta Post newspaper. The study used Haugen’s (1950) and Katamba’s (2005) theories to analyze types of borrowing words and Bharathi’s (1992) theory to explain factors of word borrowing as found in The Jakarta Post newspaper. This study used descriptive qualitative design. The source of data was obtained from The Jakarta Post newspaper. The data were a number of Indonesian borrowing words used in the newspaper. The main instrument in collecting, classifying, and analyzing the data was the writer herself. The method of data collection was content analysis while the method of data analysis was interactive data analysis. The writer found 40 data that were categorized as Indonesian borrowing words of loanword type. However, the writer did not find any data which belong to loanshift. Of the 40 data of loanwords found, 30 data were categorized as necessary loanwords and 10 data were classified as unnecessary loanwords. In terms of factors of borrowing, the writer found 31 data due to socio-cultural and economic contacts, and 9 data due to political relations.
