Terdapat dua aktivitas dalam proses pembuatan produk yaitu aktivitas yang memiliki nilai tambah (value added) dan aktivitas yang tidak memiliki nilai tambah (non value added). aktivitas yang tidak memiliki nilai tambah (non value added) akan menyebabkan pemborosan atau waste dalam proses produksi. Sehingga perlu dilakukan analisis perbaikan dalam proses produksi perusahaan untuk menangani pemborosan atau waste yang terjadi. PT Margahayu Citra Utama merupakan perusahaan yang memproduksi pita webing dengan berbagai variasi warna dan ukuran yang berbeda-beda sesuai dengan permintaan konsumen atau job order. Pada pembuatan pita webing sering terjadi waiting time karena kapasitas mesin yang digunakan berbeda dan karena adanya aktivitas non value added. Untuk mengetahui pemborosan yang terjadi pada proses pembuatan pita webing, maka diterapkan metode value stream mapping (VSM) yang fokus utama penerapannya adalah untuk mengetahui dan mendokumentasikan semua proses atau aktivitas yang terjadi yang tidak memberikan nilai tambah pada proses produksi. Selain penerapan VSM, untuk mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang terjadi yaitu wawancara kepada pihak-pihak yang terkait pada bagian produksi untuk mengetahui pemborosan atau waste yang terjadi. Mesin yang digunakan dalam proses pembuatan pita webing ada 3 macam yaitu mesin warping/sekiran, mesin needle loom/penganyaman dan mesin roll/penggulung. Hasil pembuatan current state mapping diketahui bahwa lead time produksi sebesar 4381,86 menit, value added time sebesar 2280,31 menit. Hasil identifikasi pemborosan atau waste yang terjadi ada 6 yaitu berupa overproduction, excessive transportation, unnecessary inventory, unnecessary motion, defect dan waiting.

The result of making the current state mapping shows that production lead time is 4381.86 minutes, value added time is 2280.31 minutes.
