[ Anotasi Abstrak ]

Mukarromah. 15.05.1.1.1.00118. In the patriarchal system men and women are different human which men dominate women. Men are considered as superior and women inferior. The purpose of this study is to find out the patriarchy system portrayed in Danielle Steel’s Journey which occurred by Male’s domination from the male character towards the female character in the story. The kind of domination is through verbal abuse and sexual violence and the effect of patriarchy towards the female character. This study uses patriarchy theory. In patriarchy system, men dominate women. They do not have freedom of their right. Men become the superior and women as inferior. Jack portrayed the patriarchy system from the attitude towards Maddy that he always takes control of Maddy’s life. To analyze this data, this study uses qualitative study whereas the data from the character’s utterance and the author narration which is focuses on the male domination of Jack as the main character. The result of this study found the male domination by Jack through the sexual violence and verbal abuse, such as controlling, insulting, demeaning, isolating and threatening. Then, the effects of male domination to female character are mental pressure, such as confusing, fearing and self-blaming and also the action from Maddy to leave Jack.
