Abstrak Studi ini berfokus pada bahasa kiasan. Ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis dan fungsi bahasa kiasan dalam lirik lagu Katy Perry yang dipilih. Data dianalisis dan diklasifikasikan berdasarkan jenis dan fungsi bahasa kiasan yang diusulkan oleh Perrine (1988). Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data adalah lirik lagu Katy Perry yang dipilih, sedangkan data adalah lirik-lirik dalam lagu Katty Perry yang berisi bahasa kiasan. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah Konten-analisis yang diusulkan oleh Khotari (2004). Komponen analisis data adalah pengumpulan data, reduksi data, tampilan data, dan kesimpulan oleh Miles & Huberman (2005). Penulis menemukan dua belas jenis bahasa kiasan seperti metafora, simile, personifikasi, hiperbola, synecdoche, metonimi, alegori, paradoks, simbol, ironi, apostrof, understatement. Penulis juga menemukan tiga fungsi bahasa kiasan seperti memberi kesenangan imajinatif, membawa citra tambahan dan menambah intensitas emosional. It aims to analyze the types and the functions of figurative language in selected lyrics of Katy Perry’s song. The data are analyzed and classified based on the types and functions of figurative language proposed by Perrine (1988). This study uses a descriptive qualitative research. The source of the data is selected lyrics of Katy Perry’s song, while the data arelyrics in Katty Perry’s song that contains the figurative languages. The method used to collect the data was Content-analysis proposed by Khotari (2004). The components of data analysis are data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusion by Miles&Huberman (2005). The writer found twelve types of figurative language such as metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, synecdoche, metonymy, allegory, paradox, symbol, irony, apostrophe, understatement. The writer also found three functions of figurative language such as to giveimaginative pleasure, to bring additional imagery and to add emotional intensity.
