[ Anotasi Abstrak ]

Deskripsi Lain

Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world which is faced with a continuously increasing population, industrial development, urbanization, and modernization in each region causing an increase in the amount of waste generated, especially plastic bags. According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia in 2016, plastic was ranked as the fourth largest of the ten objects that contributed to the largest waste in the sea, with a total of 1,019,902 waste. Plastics are made from synthetic polymers that are non-biodegradable. So it cannot be broken down by microorganisms that exist on the ground. Conventional plastic waste takes 300-500 years to decompose completely by decomposer organisms. Innovation is needed in the plastic production process as an effort to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste. One of them is plastic innovation made from natural polymers which can be renewed, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly. This study aims to determine the contribution of cassava skin waste bioplastics and tofu waste to environmental preservation efforts and to determine the bioplastic characteristics of cassava waste and tofu waste based on tensile strength, elongation, water absorption, and plastic biodegradation values. The results showed that Bio-degradable plastic from cassava starch waste and tofu waste has the potential to be an alternative to the conventional plastic that is available today. The availability of abundant and renewable raw materials and does not interfere with the need for major food quality is considered better than conventional petroleum-based plastics whose existence is limited and non-renewable. Laboratory test results show that the combination of cassava starch and tofu waste can not be as good quality as conventional plastic, but this research has proven that cassava waste can be used as plastic and is a better hope for environmental problems caused by plastic waste.
