Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui teknik sastra dalam teori realisme magis dari Anne C. Hegerfeldt (2005) dalam novel The Starless Sea karya Erin Morgenstern. Rancangan penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Sumber data primer diperoleh dari novel The Starless Sea karya Erin Morgenstern. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan membaca novel, menemukan pernyataan penting, kemudian menulis hasil analisis. Metode pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini adalah melalui kutipan dalam novel dan dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan pendekatan teoritis oleh Creswell (2018). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Zachary Ezra Rawlins dalam novel The Starless Sea mengalami peristiwa magis dari berbagai peristiwa dalam lingkungan sekitarnya. Semua peristiwa magis di dalam novel menggambarkan teori sastra dari Hegerfeldt yang terdiri dari, adaptasi dari genre dan mode, tokoh utama/focal dalam realisme magis, paradigma pengetahuan, strategi destabilisasi, dan teknik literalisasi. English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Erika Citra Sari Hartanto, S.S, M.Hum. The purpose of this study is to determine the literary techniques of magical realism theory by Anne C. Hegerfeldt (2005) in The Starless Sea, a novel by Erin Morgenstern. The design of this research uses qualitative methods. Primary data sources were obtained from The Starless Sea novel by Erin Morgenstern. Data were collected by reading the novel, find the important statement, then write the analysis’ findings. The method of collecting data from this study is through the quotations in the novel and in analyzing the data, the writer using the theoretical approach by Creswell (2018). The results showed that the character Zachary Ezra Rawlins in The Starless Sea novel experienced magical events from his experience in society. All of the magical events inside the novel portrayed the theory by Hegerfeldt which is Literary Techniques. The techniques are consists of several categories such as, the adaptation of other genres and modes, magical realist focalizers, paradigms of knowledge, strategies of destabilization, and techniques of literalization.
