Culture shock atau bisa dikatakan dengan gegar budaya merupakan istilah yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan rasa gelisah yang dirasakan seseorang apabila mengalami dan bertemu dengan budaya lain. Perasaan gelisah akan muncul saat adanya peredaan dalam melakukan adaptasi dengan budaya baru. culture shock dapat mencakup aspek yang ada pada kehidupan sehari-hari seperti pergaulan, budaya, agama, cara berpakaian, bahasa, dll. Realitas ini juga digambarkan dalam film atau serial drama yang termasuk dalam komunikasi massa. Seperti serial drama keluaran Netflix yang berjudul “Elite” dengan salah satu pemeran yang bernama Nadia mengalami culture shock saat pindah ke sekolah barunya.rnTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa, mengidentifikasi, menarik kesimpulan dengan menggunakan teori semiotika John Fiske dengan tiga level yaitu level realitas, level representasi, dan level ideologi mengenai representasi semiotika culture shock pemeran Nadia dalam serial Netflix “Elite”. Metode penelitian yang digunakan peneliti adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekata semiotika. Analisis yang peneliti lakukan menggunakan teori semiotika john Fiske yang mencakup tiga level realitas, representasi, dan ideologi. Sumber data dan subjek yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah serial Netflix “Elite”.rnHasil dari penelitian ini adalah serial Netflix “Elite” terdapat salah satu pemeran yang mengalami culture shock yang dianalisis dengan tiga level yang dikemukakan John Fiske. Level realitas yang dilakukan memperlihatkan terjadinya culture shock dan melewati fase optimistik, krisis, recovery, dan penyesuaian diri. Level representasi yang dihasilkan memperlihatkan kode teknik pada aspek kamera, pengaturan cahaya, dan setting yang menggambarkan culture shock pada pemeran Nadia. Kemudian, pada level ideologi dapat disimpulkan bahwa culture shock yang terdapat pada scene-scene serial Netflix “Elite” mendukung ideologi asimilatif.rnKata Kunci: Culture Shock, Serial Drama, Semiotika, Semiotika John Fiske

Culture shock is a term used to describe the anxiety that a person feels when experiencing and meeting other cultures. Feelings of restlessness will arise when there is a reduction in adapting to a new culture. Culture shock can include aspects life such relationships, culture, religion, how to dress, language, etc. this reality is also depicted in films, drama series which are included in mass communication. Like the Netflix drama series entitled “Elite” with one of the actors named Nadia experiencing culture shock when she moved to her new school.rnThe purpose of this study is to analyze, identify, draw conclusions using John Fiske’s theory on semiotics with three levels, namely the level of reality, representation, and the level of ideology regarding the semiotic representations of culture shock Nadia in the Netflix series “Elite”. The research method used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative approach. The analysis carried out by the researcher uses John Fiske’s semiotic theory which includes three levels of reality, representation, and ideology. The data source and subject used in this research is the Netflix series “Elite”.rnThe results of this study are the Netflix series “Elite” there is one actor who experiences culture shock which is analyzed with thress levels proposed by John Fiske. The level of reality carried out show the occurrence of culture shock and phases of optimism, crisis, recovery, and adjustment. The resulting level of representation shows the technical code on the camera aspect, lighting settings, and settings that describe the the culture shock of Nadia’s cast.
