Advisor: Prof. Suryo Tri Saksono.rnPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari kesepian tokoh Mateo Torez dan Rufus Emetario yang terdapat dalam Novel Adam Silvera They Both Die At The End menggunakan pendekatan psikologis dan teori kesepian Oleh Rubenstein And Shaver (1982). Konsep kesepian dari Rubenstein dan Shaver (1982) dapat digunakan untuk menemukan alasan kesepian yang dialami tokoh Mateo dan Rufus dalam novel They Both Die at The End karya Adam Silvera. Sekaligus mencari solusi atas alasan kesepian yang menimpa karakter Rufus dan Mateo. Dalam teori kesepian oleh Rubenstein dan Shaver ditemukan alasan kesepian dan mengatasi kesepian. Alasan kesepian adalah sendirian, tidak terikat, isolasi paksa, keterasingan dan dislokasi. Cara mengatasi kesepian adalah kesendirian aktif, kontak sosial, menghabiskan uang. Dampak kesepian adalah kepasifan yang menyedihkan. Data dari penelitian ini adalah ucapan dari tokoh Mateo dan Rufus serta narasi pengarang dalam novel tersebut. Jenis penelitian penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik Robert K. Yin diterapkan untuk menganalisis data penelitian ini. Itu adalah menyusun, membongkar, memasang kembali, menafsirkan dan menyimpulkan.rnHasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat alasan kesepian, tiga cara untuk mengatasi kesepian dan satu dampak dari kesepian yang dialami oleh Mateo dan Rufus. Empat faktor alasan kesepian yang dialami oleh karakter Mateo dan Rufus adalah menjadi sendirian, terpisah, keterasingan, dan dislokasi. Kesepian yang dirasakan oleh karakter Mateo dan Rufus terjadi karena beberapa hal yang terjadi, seperti ketika mereka mendapatkan vonis dari The Death – Castrnbahwa mereka hanya memiliki waktu 24 jam untuk hidup. Penelitian ini juga menemukan tiga cara untuk mengatasi kesepian Mateo dan Rufus. Mengatasi kesepian mereka secara adalah menghabiskan uang, kesendirian aktif, kontak sosial. Advisor: Prof. Suryo Tri Saksono.rnThis study aims to study the loneliness of the characters Mateo Torez and Rufus Emetario found in Adam Silvera’s novel They Both Die At The End using a psychological approach and the theory of loneliness by Rubenstein and Shaver (1982). The concept of loneliness from Rubenstein and Shaver (1982) can be used to find the reasons of loneliness experienced by the characters Mateo and Rufus in novel They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera. As well looking for a solution the loneliness reason that happened to the characters Rufus and Mateo. In the theory of loneliness by Rubenstein and Shaver found the reasons of loneliness, overcoming ways of loneliness, the impact of loneliness. The reasons of loneliness are being alone, being unattached, forced isolation, alienation and dislocation. Overcoming ways of loneliness are active solitude, social contact, spending money. The effect of loneliness is sad passivity. The data from this study are the utterances of the characters Mateo and Rufus and the author’s narration in the novel. The research type of this study was qualitative approach. Robert K. Yin’s techniques were applied for analyzing data of this study. Those are compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting and concluding.rnThe results of this study indicate that there are four reasons of loneliness, three the overcoming ways of loneliness and one impact of loneliness experienced by Mateo and Rufus. The four reasons of the loneliness experienced by characters Mateo and Rufus are being alone, being unattached, alienation, and dislocation. The loneliness felt by the characters Mateo and Rufus occurs because of several things that happened, such when they received a verdict from The Death – Cast that they only have 24 hours to live. This study also found three overcoming ways to deal with Mateo and Rufus’ loneliness they are spending money, active solitude, social contact.
