Sebuah Studi Transitivitas pada Pidato Permulaan Taylor Swift di New York University Tahun Angkatan 2022.rn Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis proses transitivitas dan efektivitas komponen transitivitasnya dalam Commencement Speech Taylor Swift di New York University. Penelitian ini didukung dengan menggunakan teori Halliday dan Matthiessen (2004) untuk jenis-jenis proses transitivitas dibagi menjadi enam jenis yaitu proses material, mental, relational, behavioral, verbal, dan existential. Juga, Hopper dan Thompson (1980) untuk komponen transitivitas dibagi menjadi dua yaitu komponen efektifitas tinggi dan rendah. Jenis penelitian penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Ucapan-ucapan Taylor Swift yang mengandung transitivitas dalam video dikumpulkan sebagai data penelitian ini. Rancangan penelitian ini menggunakan teknik Creswell (2012) dan Miles, Huberman, dan Saldana (2014) yang diterapkan untuk menganalisis data penelitian ini. Antara lain, kondensasi data, display data, dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi.rn Studi ini mencakup 75 data dalam Pidato Permulaan Taylor Swift yang dikategorikan sebagai jenis transitivitas dan komponen transitivitas efektivitasnya. Secara khusus, di antara enam jenis proses transitivitas terdapat juga subproses yang meliputi mental (cognition, affection, and perception) proses dan relational (attributive and identifying). Dalam hal efektifitas, disebut efektifitas tinggi bila data memuat enam parameter atau lebih sedangkan untuk yang rendah memuat kurang dari enam parameter. Hasilnya, enam jenis transitivitas yaitu material process (14 data), mental cognition process (12 data), mental affection process (9 data), mental perception process (4 data), behavioral process (7 data), relational attributive process (11 data), relational identifying process (7 data), verbal process (8 data), dan existential process (3 data). Dengan demikian, proses dominan muncul dalam material process. Selanjutnya, juga dari proses tersebut memiliki komponen transitivitas seperti pencapaian material process (6 data efektivitas tinggi dan 7 rendah), capaian mental cognition process (4 data efektivitas tinggi dan 9 rendah), capaian mental affection process (4 efektivitas tinggi dan 5 rendah), capaian mental perception process (4 data efektivitas rendah), capaian behavioral process (3 tinggi dan 4 data efektivitas rendah), capaian relational attributive process (3 tinggi dan 8 data efektivitas rendah), capaian relational identifying process (1 tinggi dan 6 data efektivitas rendah), capaian verbal process (2 data efektivitas tinggi dan 6 data rendah), dan capaian existential process (3 data efektivitas rendah). Oleh karena itu, keefektifan yang dominan adalah keefektifan rendah yang tertanam dalam mental cognition process.

This study is supported by using Halliday and Matthiessen (2004) for the types of transitivity process which divided into six types namely material, mental relational, behavioral, verbal, and existential process. Also, Hopper and Thompson (1980) for the transitivity components which divided into two those are high and low effectiveness components. The research type of this study is qualitative approach. The Taylor Swift’s utterances which consist of transitivity in the video are collected the data of this study. The design of this study is using Creswell (2012) and Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) techniques are applied for analyzing data of this study. Those are data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification.rn This study covers 75 data in Taylor Swift’s Commencement Speech which categorized types of transitivity and its effectiveness transitivity components. Particularly, among the six types of transitivity process there are also subprocesses included such mental (cognition, affection, and perception) process and relational (attributive and identifying) process. In regards to effectiveness, it is called high effectiveness when the data included six more parameters meanwhile for the low one included less than six parameters. In result, six types of transitivity namely material process (14 data), mental cognition process (12 data), mental affection (9 data), mental perception process (4 data), behavioral process (7 data), relational attributive process (11 data), relational identifying process (7 data), verbal process (8 data), and existential process (3 data). Thus, the dominant process appears in material process. Furthermore, also from these process it has transitivity components such material process attains (6 high and 7 low effectiveness data), mental cognition process attains (4 high and 9 low effectiveness data), mental affection process attains (4 high and 5 low effectiveness data), mental perception process attains (4 low effectiveness data), behavioral process attains (3 high and 4 low effectiveness data), relational attributive process attains (3 high and 8 low effectiveness data), relational identifying process attains (1 high and 6 low effectiveness data), verbal process attains (2 high and 6 low effectiveness data), and existential process attains (3 low effectiveness data). Hence, the dominant effectiveness is low effectiveness embedded in mental cognition process.
