[ Anotasi Abstrak ]
Deskripsi Lain
This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of bioaugmentation using the extreme halophilic microorganism, Halococcus sp., in accelerating the evaporation rate during the salt crystallization process across three comparative systems: the Madurese, Portuguese, and Geomembrane methods. This bioaugmentation strategy utilizes the carotenoid pigment (bacterioruberin) of Halococcus sp., which physically acts a natural solar panel to optimize the absorption of solar radiation and elevate the thermal temperature of the brine. A simple field experimental method was applied for two production cycles using test plots measuring 7.5 x 3 x 0.05 meters with a capacity of 1,125 Liters of high-salinity brine 20°Bé. The treatment involved inoculating 8 Liters of bacterial starter (0.5% dosage) supported by Hidrilisat Protein Ikan (HPI) nutrient supplementation. The results indicated that the integration of Halococcus sp. significantly influenced the dynamics of seawater density (Baume) and the reduction of brine volume. Among the three tested systems, the Geomembrane method was identified the most optimal system, recording the highest evaporation rate of up to 14.3 Liters/hour in the first cycle due to the temperature optimization from the black HDPE plastic lining. Thus study revealed that light intensity and air temperature exhibited the strongest fundamental relationship with evaporation kinetics. Driven by a stable supply of dissolved macronutrients in the form of nitrates, Halococcus sp. was stimulated to proliferate into homogeneous cellular clusters that not only accelerated the crystallization duration but also potentially enhanced the quantity and purity of NaCl crystals by biologically separating mineral impurities.
