[ Anotasi Abstrak ]

Deskripsi Lain

Metal sandwich panels are light weight structures with a high stiffness to weight ratio, making them widely used in various engineering applications. The mechanical performance of these structures is influenced by the joint configuration, which functions the load transfer path between layers. This study aimed to analyze the load distribution of dissimilar metal sandwich panels using Autodesk Inventor simulation, determine the effect of the number of MIG spot weld joints and weld spot diameter on bending performance through experimental testing, and evaluate the significance of these two factors using a two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The materials consisted of Aluminum 1100 the upper face sheet, sinusoidal corrugated galvanized steel the core, and Stainless Steel 304 the lower face sheet. The experimental variables included 4, 6, and 8 spot weld joints with weld spot diameters of 0.6 mm, 0.8 mm, and 1.0 mm. Static simulations were performed in Autodesk Inventor under an 800 N load to obtain the Von Mises stress, displacement, and safety factor values, while the experimental investigation was conducted using the three-point bending method. The experimental data were analyzed using normality testing, homogeneity testing, and two-way ANOVA. The simulation results indicated that all specimens were within the safe operating range, with stress concentrations located around the welded joints the primary load transfer regions. The highest Von Mises stress was obtained in the specimen with 4 spot weld joints and a 0.6 mm weld diameter, reaching 0.1306 MPa, whereas the lowest value was observed in the specimen with 8 spot weld joints and a 1.0 mm weld diameter, measuring 0.02604 MPa. The displacement values ranged from 1.117 × 10⁻⁵ mm to 1.807 × 10⁻⁵ mm, indicating very small deformation and excellent structural stiffness. In addition, all specimens exhibited safety factor values that indicated safe structural performance. The experimental results demonstrated that increasing the number of spot weld joints improved the bending capacity of the sandwich panel, with the highest average maximum force obtained from the configuration with 8 spot weld joints and a weld diameter of 0.8 mm. The two-way ANOVA results showed that the number of spot weld joints had a significant effect on the bending performance (P-value 0.008), whereas the weld spot diameter (P-value 0.059) and the interaction between the two factors (P-value 0.446) had no significant effect. Therefore, the number of MIG spot weld joints was identified the most influential factor in improving the bending performance of dissimilar metal sandwich panels, while the weld spot diameter primarily affected the local stress distribution based on the simulation results.
