Deskripsi Lain

Mardina Oktavia Wulandari, Determinants of Female Labor Force Participation in Indonesia: Testing the U-Curve Hypothesis of Women’s Average Years of Schooling, under the supervision of Dr. Ambariyanto, S.E., M.Si.rnrnThis study aims to analyze the effects of Women’s Average Years of Schooling (AYS), Women’s Wages, the Gender Empowerment Index (GEI), and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on the Female Labor Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) in Indonesia, well to examine the nonlinear U-shaped relationship between women’s AYS and FLFPR. This study uses panel data from 34 provinces in Indonesia covering the period from 2015 to 2024. The analysis employs quadratic panel data regression using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach and cluster-robust standard errors. The results show that women’s AYS has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on FLFPR, while the squared term of AYS has a positive and statistically significant effect. However, the combination of the directions and significance of the two variables does not meet the criteria for establishing a U-shaped relationship. Therefore, the U-shaped hypothesis between women’s AYS and FLFPR is not empirically supported. Furthermore, women’s wages, the GEI, and FDI have positive and statistically significant effects on FLFPR. The results indicate that an increase in women’s education has not directly formed a U-shaped pattern in women’s participation in the labor market in Indonesia.
