This study aims to analyse the types and functions of attitudinal meaning found in This study aimed to explain the types of Affect, Judgment, and Appreciation and the functions of each attitudinal meaning expressed in five selected songs from Taylor Swift’s Lover album: Lover, Cornelia Street, Daylight, The Archer, and Cruel Summer. The study employed a qualitative descriptive design. The data consisted of words and phrases containing attitudinal meanings, while the data sources were the officially published lyrics of the five selected songs retrieved from Spotify. The data were collected through documentation. The researcher selected the songs, collected and repeatedly read the lyrics, identified expressions containing Affect, Judgment, and Appreciation, and coded the data according to the song, line number, attitude category, and polarity. The data were analysed using the Attitude subsystem of Appraisal Theory proposed by Martin and White (2005) and the interactive qualitative analysis model of Miles et al. (2014), which involved data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed 63 Attitude expressions, comprising 35 instances of Affect, 15 of Judgment, and 13 of Appreciation. Affect was the most dominant type because the lyrics frequently represented personal emotions, psychological conditions, romantic attachment, insecurity, fear of loss, happiness, and heartbreak. 11 subtypes were identified, with in/security the most frequent subtype (17 data), followed by un/happiness (16 data). The analysis also identified fifteen functions of Attitudinal meaning. Representing Personal Experiences and Internal Psychological Conditions was the most dominant function (12 data), while Expressing Emotions and Evaluating Ability, Reliability, Sincerity each occurred in eight data. Overall, Affect mainly represented emotional vulnerability and personal experiences, Judgment evaluated human behaviour and personal qualities, and Appreciation assigned aesthetic and symbolic value to relationships, memories, places, and personal transformation.
