[ Anotasi Abstrak ]

This study investigates the types of register and communicative functions used byrna dermatologist on the YouTube channel @DrDrayzday. The study employed arnqualitative descriptive research design using spoken utterances from five selectedrnvideos in the “Dermatologist’s Tips” playlist. The data consisted of 96rntimestamped utterances produced by Dr. Dray, with each datum analyzed in termsrnof one register type and one communicative function. The data were collectedrnthrough documentation and analyzed through data condensation, data display, andrnconclusion drawing and verification. The types of register were classified basedrnon Joos (1967) classification of frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimaternregisters. The communicative functions were interpreted through Biber & Conradrn(2019) functional perspective on register and supported by literature onrnprofessional and health communication concerning informative, explanatory, rnadvisory, and cautionary purposes. The findings show that three types of registerrnwere identified. Formal register was the most frequently used type with 45 data, rnfollowed by consultative register with 36 data and casual register with 15 data, rnwhile frozen and intimate registers were not found. Four communicative functionsrnwere identified, with the explanatory function occurring most frequently in 33rndata, followed by the advisory function in 30 data, the cautionary function in 23rndata, and the informative function in 10 data. These findings indicate that Dr.rnDray predominantly maintains professional communication while also adaptingrnher language to a general online audience. The predominance of explanatory andrnadvisory functions further shows that the dermatologist’s communication isrnmainly oriented toward helping viewers understand dermatological knowledgernand providing practical guidance. Overall, the register used on @DrDrayzdayrnreflects the relationship between professional communication, communicativernpurposes, and the situational demands of digital dermatological education.
