[ Anotasi Abstrak ]
Deskripsi Lain
Traditional fishermen on Masalembu Island, Sumenep Regency, rely onrninformal communication networks to share information about sea currents andrnresolve conflicts over the use of rompong (fish aggregating devices), due to limitedrnaccess to formal communication systems in this remote archipelago. This studyrnaims to analyze how informal communication networks are formed amongrntraditional fishermen on Masalembu Island. The study employed a quantitativernapproach with a case study method. Data were collected from 205 respondents inrnMasalima and Sukajeruk villages through questionnaires and sociometricrnmeasurement, using proportional stratified random sampling. Data were analyzedrnusing descriptive statistics and Social Network Analysis (SNA) with UCINET 64rnsoftware, covering Degree Centrality, Betweenness Centrality, Network Density, rnand Clustering Coefficient.rnThe results show that the informal network for sea current information hasrnlow density but still reaches all fishermen through several key actors who serve asrntrusted main connectors, despite the fact that formal verification is rarelyrnconducted. Meanwhile, the informal network for rompong management has thernlowest density but the highest proportion of cross-village connections, linkedrnthrough a single connector chain, and functions not only to exchange informationrnbut also to resolve conflicts through deliberation involving senior fishermen asrnmediators. The study concludes that both informal communication networks, rndespite their low density, remain effective due to the role of central actors and long-rnterm trust, and play an important role in maintaining the safety and social harmonyrnof traditional fishermen in remote island areas.
