Elizabeth Berg’s Range of Motion is one of literary works that consists of conflict, either internal conflicts or external conflicts experienced by the main character. This study is focused on the utterances that reveal the effects of the internal and external conflicts experienced by the one of the main character, Lainey. Concerning this matter, the intrinsic approach is used to analyze intrinsic elements, which is conflict. The characteristic of qualitative study: (1) the data that were analyzes and interpreted were not manipulated. (2) The data which were described and analyzed are in the form of words, e.g. the utterances in novel. (3) The key instrument is the writer. In line with the features of qualitative research, the data collection was done simultaneously with the data analysis. There three related processes in the data analysis,; reducing data; displaying data and making conclusion. To get more accurate information of certain perception about conflicts in the novel, a consultation with the advisers was done. After analyzing the novel, it was found that the main character face several conflicts, both internal and external conflicts. The internal conflicts are Lainey’s dilemma whether she must move her husband to home or stay in the nursing home. The external conflicts are the contradictory perception between Lainey and Pat Swanson, Lainey between her children, Sarah. Lainey and Pat Swanson on which external conflict occur. The climax occurs when the series of the complicated problem is continued by Lainey’s dilemma whether she moved her husband to home or not. The story ending as happy ending which is indicated by the recovery of Jay Berman.
