Abrory. 11.05.111.00050. A Study of Metaphor in Taylor Swift’s Selected Lyrics. Thesis English Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, Trunojoyo University. Adivsors :(I) Diah Ikawati Ayuningtias, S.S.,M.Pd This study focuses on the metaphors that are found in Taylor Swift's selected lyrics. This study aims to explain the types of metaphor which are taken from the sixteen songs of Taylor Swift. It also aims to explain the most frequently type of metaphor. This study is conducted by using a qualitative research because the data are in the form of words or sentences. The data of this study are words or sentences in Taylor Swift’s selected lyrics consisting of metaphor. The data of this study are conducted by using observation method through note taking technique and to analyze the data, the writer uses the content analysis. In addition, to analyze the data this study uses metaphor’s theory proposed by Hurford (2007). The writer finds 32 data. The writer finds three types of metaphor, 18 data which are categorized as structural metaphor, 4 data are included into orientational metaphor, and 10 data are categorized as ontological metaphor. The writer also finds the most frequently type of metaphor. structural metaphor which appears 18 times with 56,25% of percentage, orientational metaphor appears 4 times with 12,50% of percentage, and ontological metaphor appears 10 times with 31,25% of percentage.
