ABSTRAK Dalam keterampilan membaca terdapat materi menentukan kalimat utama dalam sebuah paragraf. Materi menentukan kalimat utama penting bagi siswa agar dapat memahami isi bacaan sehingga siswa mudah mendapatkan informasi atau pesan yang disampaikan dalam bacaan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk-bentuk kesalahan siswa dalam menentukan kalimat utama dan faktor penyebab kesalahan siswa dalam menentukan kalimat utama. Penelitian ini termasuk kedalam penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SDN Karangduak II Sumenep dengan subjek penelitian yaitu siswa kelas IV Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017 yang berjumlah 25 siswa. Pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi yaitu hasil analisis jawaban, wawancara, dan observasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat beberapa bentuk kesalahan siswa dalam menentukan kalimat utama yaitu yaitu (1) kalimat tidak lengkap, (2) kalimat tidak dapat mewakili isi paragraf, (3) kalimat tidak mengandung gagasan utama, (4) kalimat yang ditulis siswa merupakan kalimat penjelas, (5) kalimat tidak jelas eksistensinya. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor diataranya (1) kurangnya minat membaca pada siswa, (2) kurangnya fasilitas untuk meningkatkan minat baca siswa, (3) kurangnya penggunaan bahasa Indonesia dalam sehari-hari, (4) kurangnya pemahaman siswa dalam memahami materi menentukan kalimat utama, (5) kurangnya penggunaan media pembelajaran. ABSTRACT In determining the material of reading skills are the main sentence in a paragraph. The material determines the main sentence is important for students to understand the content of reading so that students easily get the information or messages conveyed in the text. This study aims to determine the forms of students 'mistakes in determining the sentence and the main causal factor in determining students' mistakes main sentence. This study included into descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted in SDN Karangduak II Sumenep with the subject of all fourth grade students in Academic Year 2016/2017, amounting to twenty-five students. Collecting data using the documentation that is the result of the students' answers are then analyzed to determine the forms of students' mistakes in determining the main sentence, interviews, and observations.Based on the results of this study concluded that there is some form of students' mistakes in determining the main sentence, namely: (1) the sentence is not complete, (2) the sentence can not represent the content of the paragraph, (3) the sentence does not contain the main idea, (4) the sentence written by the students an explanatory sentence, (5) the sentence is not clear existence. It is caused by several factors including, (1) lack of interest in reading in students, (2) lack of facilities to improve students' reading interest, (3) the lack of understanding vocabullary , (4) lack of understanding of students to understand the material determines the sentence primary, (5) lack of use of instructional media.
