[ Anotasi Abstrak ]
Despicable Me 2 is an animated comedy movie. It is interesting to be discussed. This study is intended to discuss the type of the flouting maxims in the movie. Then the writer discussed the implied meaning of utterances that contain flouting maxims to create funniness. The main theory used was Grice (1975) theory. The study is conducted by using qualitative method. The source of data is a movie entitles Despicable Me 2and the transcript. The data is some utterances of flouting maxims to create funniness. After analyzing the movie, it can be concluded that there are 32 data or utterance that contain flouting maxim found in the movie Despicable Me 2. Maxim of quality is the most flouted with 10 utterances. Precisely there are 9 utterances of the maxim of manner and 8 utterances of the maxim of relevance. Then the last is flouting the maxim of quantity is the least with 5 utterances. Maxim of quality is mostly flouted because the character often wanted to change or end the topic, sometimes told lie. In the conclusion, the writer concluded that flouting maxims can cause funniness.
