[ Anotasi Abstrak ]
This study aimed to discuss about commodification phenomenon based on the research question that has been formulated in this study, they were 1) How Jeanine Matthew’scommodifying initiate portrayed in Veronica Roth’s Four. 2) What is the motive behind Jeanine Matthew’scommodifying initiates portrayed in Veronica Roth’s Four.This study used qualitative research design because the data was taken from the author’s narration and the utterance of characters. The chosen data was based on Marxist Criticism that focus on commodification. Moreover, the discussion of Commodifying initiates here was more elaborated by values of commodity that are exchange value, and sign-exchange value. The result of this study was the discussion of commodifiying initiates that portrayed in Veronica Roth’s Four through values of commodity. Furthermore, the result of this study was about the motive behind commodification phenomenon and apparently the motive was for sake authorization that was appropriate to be analyzed using Marxist criticism. Keywords: Marxist Criticism, Commodification, exchange value, sign-exchange value.
